Owls Open West Coast Trip vs. St. Mary's College
Rice opens a two-game road trip on Wednesday night when the Owls visit St. Mary's College in Moraga, California. Tipoff is set for 10 p.m. (Central). The trip wraps up with a game at Pacific at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Go West
The two-game trip marks the Owls' first games in California since they lost to #23 UCLA 59-55 at Pauley Pavillion on 11/11/18.
Picking Up Where We Left Off
Rice has opened the year 2-0 with home wins over Stephen F. Austin and Abilene Christian, picking up the momentum generated by a strong finish in Lindsay Edmonds' first year of guiding the Owls. Rice started the 2022 conference season 0-5 against the heavyweights of the East Division (combined record of 62-28) and playing with a short bench, but the Owls were one of the hottest teams in the conference down the stretch, winning six of the last seven to close the regular season, then advancing to the second round of the C-USA tournament and took top-seeded Charlotte to the wire before seeing their run end with a 59-53 loss.
Rice vs. St. Mary's College
The Gaels lead the series 1-0, thanks to an 85-79 win in overtime in Moraga on November 16, 1992.
On the Road
After opening last season dropping four of five away from Tudor Fieldhouse, the Owls won three of their last five to finish the season 4-6.
Austin Tabbed for Preseason Honors, Owls Picked Fourth
Senior forward Ashlee Austin was named to the Conference USA Women's Basketball Preseason All-Conference Team while league coaches picked the Owls to finish fourth in the conference race. Austin earned second-team, all-conference honors as a junior after a season in which she was the only player in C-USA to rank in the top 13 in points per game, field goal percentage, free throws made, and free throw percentage. She ranked fourth in the conference in field goal percentage (46.3) and fifth in scoring with 16.5 points per game as well as free throws made (122). She established career bests in nearly every statistical category and scored in double figures in 22 of 27 games, highlighted by a pair of 30-point efforts (Sam Houston & Charlotte).
