Soccer Opens Conference USA Tournament against Host Charlotte

HOUSTON — The Rice Soccer team will open the 2022 Conference USA Tournament as the top seed and will face eighth-seed and host Charlotte this Wednesday, November 2. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.

Scouting Rice
• Head Coach Brian Lee is in his fourth season at the helm of the Rice soccer program. He holds a 45-21-8 record in four seasons and is 332-209-63 in 25 years as a head coach.
• The Owls enter Wednesday's C-USA Tournament opener as the top seed after winning the regular season title. They had an 11-7-1 record and were 9-0-1 in Conference USA play.
• Grace Collins, who was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year, leads C-USA with 24 points and eight assists, which is the 23rd-most in the nation. She's also second in the league with eight goals. Collins leads the team with 41 shots and 21 shots on goal.
• First Team All-Conference member Delaney Schultz is second on the team and tied for ninth in C-USA with five goals. She's also second on the team with 12 points.
• Midfielder Madison Kent is fourth on the team with six points on two goals and two assists.
• Second Team All-Conference USA member Mikala Furuto has four points on a pair of goals.
• C-USA Goalkeeper of the Year Bella Killgore has a 1.06 goals against average and an 81.1% save percentage while leading the conference with 86 saves. Offensively, she is third on the team with four goals and eight points. She's also second with 16 shots on goal and third with 27 shots.
Scouting Charlotte
• Charlotte enters Wednesday's C-USA Tournament opener as the eighth seed with a 3-10-4 record and were 2-6-2 in Conference USA play.
• Head Coach Brandi Fontaine is in her first season at the helm of the Charlotte soccer program. In five years as a head coach, Fontaine is 38-36-12.
• Third Team All-Conference USA member Tash Hudson leads the 49ers with five goals and 11 points. She also leads the team with 39 shots and 19 shots on goal.
• Midfielder Haley Shand is second on the team with four goals and eight points.
• Midfielder Bailey Manfredi is third on the team with seven points behind two goals and a team-high three assists.
• Midfielder Julia Patrum, who was named Second Team All-CUSA, and defender Kelly Hastings also have three assists for the 49ers.
• Goalkeepers Brenna Murray and Emily Keck have split time for Charlotte. Murray is 2-5-2 with a 1.05 goals against average and a 76.7% save percentage. Keck is 0-4-1 with a 2.36 goals against average and of save percentage of 68.3%.
Rice-Charlotte Series History
• Rice holds an 8-1-0 record in the series, and is a perfect 4-0-0 in Charlotte.
• Wednesday's match will be the second meeting of the year between Rice and Charlotte.
• The Owls defeated Charlotte, 1-0, on Oct. 16.
