The men's basketball team opens its exhibition season October 31 against Rockhurst at 7 p.m. The regular season begins on Nov. 7 when the Owls travel to Malibu, Calif., to face Pepperdine. Rice opens its home schedule on Nov. 10 against St. Thomas.
The men's team returns nine letterwinners from last year's team that earned a berth to the College Basketball Invitational. Rice welcomes back All-Conference USA Honorable Mention member Travis Evee, who connected on 86 three-pointers, good for fourth in C-USA. 2021 Third Team member Quincy Olivari, as well as Max Fiedler, who led the team in rebounds and assists, also return.
A short-handed and inexperienced Rice women's basketball team closed strong in 2021-22 to finish the season with a 14-13 record under first-year head coach Lindsay Edmonds last season. The Owls concluded the season by winning seven of their final nine games.
Rice now boasts a full roster in 2022-23 with seven newcomers to add to a squad with all-conference honorees such as senior forward Ashlee Austin, sophomore forward Malia Fisher, and senior guard Destiny Jackson.
The Owls' home non-conference schedule features five games: Stephen F. Austin (Nov. 10), Abilene Christian (Nov. 13), TCU (Dec. 2), Houston (Dec. 10), and Sam Houston (Dec. 16). Rice will host 10 C-USA contests at Tudor Fieldhouse, which includes reigning league champion Charlotte on Feb. 25.
