Houston, Texas – The No. 22 Rice Owls volleyball team dug itself a hole it couldn't get out of, falling in straight sets to No. 18 Baylor, 3-0 (18-25, 22-25, 17-25) Wednesday night at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Rice (15-2) saw its 11-match winning streak come to an end, hitting a season-low .156 while Baylor hit .318. The Owls got 21 kills from Sahara Maruska (11) and Anota Adekunle (10 kills), who hit .421 for the match.
Fifth year setter Carly Graham had 27 assists, while junior Nia McCardell added 16 digs.
Postgame Reaction – Head Coach, Genny Volpe
"We just never really got in a rhythm offensively. It really hurt us because Baylor is an efficient team. They're a solid team. They're consistent both defensively and offensively. I was disappointed in our lack of production on offense. I thought it would be better. Overall, we got beat in pretty much every area. What was most surprising is that we didn't really show the resiliency that we've shown when our backs have been up against the wall."
