Rice Honored With Conference USA Institutional Excellence Award

IRVING, Texas — Rice student-athletes earned the school's 13th Conference USA Institutional Excellence Award in 16 years in the conference, posting a combined GPA of 3.412 while six sports were honored for their GPA during the 2020-21 academic year.
The Institutional Excellence Award is given to the C-USA institution with the highest GPA during each academic year for all student-athletes in conference-sponsored sports.
The Sport Academic Awards honor the team in each conference-sponsored sport with the highest GPA for the academic year. Rice led the league as six different teams recorded the highest GPA for their respective sports as the Owls' men's basketball, women's cross country, football, men's golf, and men's and women's track and field were all honored.
Women's cross country, football, golf and men's track and field were repeat honorees from 2020. Football, women's cross country and men's track and field earned the award for the seventh straight year while the golf has received the honor for the fifth straight year.
Rice has received 102 C-USA Sport Academic Awards in its 16 year Conference USA history.
