Celebrate Senior Day next Saturday
In Brief: The Rice men's tennis team bounced back from a tough loss to SMU on Saturday, racing to a 6-1 win over Prairie View A&M at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Sunday. The match was the final combined dual match of the year with the Rice women's team.
Doubles: The Owls came out of the gates strong, taking the doubles point with wins at the first and third lines while leading 5-2 at the second when the point was secured.
Singles: Rice maintained the doubles momentum into singles, winning all six first sets of singles and closing out five of six matches in straight sets. Mohamed Abdel-Aziz tied his career high by winning his 11th dual singles match, improving to a team-leading 11-4 on the season.
Efe Ustundag: "This was exactly what we needed after yesterday. It's always a challenge to immediately come back to the court after a tough match that you put so much into. But we came back with great focus and determination from the start. We were able to get the doubles point quickly and then get through singles in about an hour and a half. We got the job done and that sets us up to rest our bodies a little before we get back to work to get ready for a very tough Tulane team next Saturday for Senior Day ."
Up Next: The Owls close out their 2021 dual schedule next Saturday when they host Tulane for Senior Day at noon. The Green Wave are currently ranked 24th in the Oracle/ITA computer rankings and 28th in the coaches poll.
