HOUSTON - For the second time in less than a week, Rice thrower Tara Simpson-Sullivan set a new school record in the hammer throw, this time breaking her own mark with a winning throw of 64.89m at Tuesday's Rice Invitational.

Simpson-Sullivan surpassed her own mark (63.33m) set last Saturday with the heave of 64.89m on Tuesday, a distance that currently ranks third in the NCAA Outdoor season. In other throws events, Julie Perez won the discus with a distance of 51.39m, which ranks fourth in the NCAA, and finished second behind Simpson-Sullivan in the hammer throw (54.84m).

Grad student Maryam Hassan won the triple jump with a leap of 12.11m in her home debut while senior Michelle Fokam was second among collegiate competitors in the long jump (5.93m).

Ali Goodson took home top honors in the pole vault (3.67m) while Johanna Bangala (400m-56.56), Taigen Hunter-Galvan (1500m-4:40.80), and Justice Coutee-McCullum (100m hurdles-13.70) were also victorious.

Tuesday's field also consisted of Houston, Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern UTRGV. Next on the schedule for the Owls is the University of Houston's Spring Break Invitational, which will be held Thursday, Mar. 18.
