Owls Advance to WNIT Final Four
For the first time in program history the Owls have reached the semifinals of the WNIT and will face the Delaware Blue Hens Friday at 4 p.m. Should the Owls win, they would face the winner of Ole Miss/Northern Iowa in the WNIT Championship on Sunday, Mar. 28 at 1 p.m. The Owls are now 8-8 all-time in the WNIT and have a combined 8-2 record in the postseason (WBI/WNIT/NCAA) under head coach Tina Langley.
About Delaware
The Blue Hens rank in the top-10 in the NCAA in five different categories, including No. 1 in the country in offensive rebounds per game (20.0). They're also fifth in total rebounds per game (46.5) and fourth in made free throws. Ty Battle is second in the NCAA in double-doubles (19) while Jasmine Dickey is 12th in the country in scoring (22.5).
20X5
With their win on Saturday over Fresno St. the Owls recorded their 20th win of the season, adding to their school record streak with now five consecutive seasons of 20 or more wins. Over the last five years under Tina Langley the Owls have gone 115-38 (.751).
Last Time Out
The Owls led wire to wire in a convincing 79-55 victory over previously undefeated California Baptist to win the WNIT Fort Worth Regional and advance to the semifinals next weekend in Memphis. Rice placed four players in double-figures led by a game-high 20 points from sophomore wing Lauren Schwartz. The Union, Ky. native, who was named to the Fort Worth All-Tournament Team, was nearly perfect on the offensive end, making 9-of-11 shots from the field to go along with six rebounds (4 offensive) and five assists. Complimenting Schwartz was senior center Nancy Mulkey, who took home tournament MVP honors with 16 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks. For the tournament the Cypress, Texas native averaged 20 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.0 blocks.
Schwartz on Fire
Sophomore wing Lauren Schwartz has been at her best in the postseason, averaging 18.7 points per game on 67 percent shooting from the field along with 5.3 rebounds per contest. Over her last six games, Schwartz is averaging 17.1 points per game and has scored 20-plus three times.
