Houston: The 34^th ranked Rice women's tennis team extended their winning streak to seven by blanking North Texas 4-0 at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Thursday. The Owls improved to 9-2 on the year (2-0 in C-USA) while the Mean Green dropped to 2-9 (0-1).

Doubles: Maria Budin and Diae El Jardi improved to 8-2 on the season with a swift 6-0 decision at the first line, but the battle for the clinching second point proved more challenging. The Mean Green stayed within striking distance before Anna Bowtell and Michaela Haet, who had rallied from an early 2-0 deficit, clinched it with a 6-4 decision.

Singles: Budin and El Jardi picked up where they left off in doubles, dropping just three games between them to extend the lead to 3-0. Rice took five of six first singles sets and Michaela Haet delivered the clinching point with a win at the first line.

Notable:

The Owls improved to 8-3 in doubles this season.
El Jardi won her fifth consecutive singles match while Haet won her fourth straight.

Elizabeth Schmidt: "Every day in college tennis is a battle. The conditions were super windy and tough for both teams. North Texas historically plays good aggressive doubles and I thought we came out with a purpose on all three courts. We lost a couple games early on three, but they won a deuce point down 2-0 and that got them going. It was good that we were able to take care of business and now we have a quick turnaround and travel to New Orleans tomorrow to take on Tulane on Saturday. Our focus is always about playing the point in front of you, playing the match in front of you, no matter where you are playing and that's what we going to continue to keep doing."
