Fans Admitted for Free to Baseball Exhibition Game

Host Sam Houston at 6 p.m. Friday
After three weeks of intrasquad scrimmages, new Rice head baseball coach José Cruz Jr. will have his first chance to evaluate his team against outside competition as the Owls host Sam Houston on Friday at 6 p.m. in a 12-inning exhibition game.
Admission to the exhibition baseball game is free but fans are asked to RSVP in advance for a chance to win a special prize. Parking will be free in West Lot 4 beginning at 5 p.m. No concessions will be available at Reckling Park but fans will be permitted to bring their own food and (non-alcoholic) beverages.
Cruz was named the 22nd head baseball coach at Rice on June 9 and welcomed a fall squad of 44 players to the start of fall drills on September 25. The Owls will travel across town to face Houston in their second exhibition game on Friday, October 15 and conclude the fall schedule of full squad activities on November 5.
The exhibition opener is part of a doubleheader of action for Rice Athletics as the Owls will host UAB in soccer at Holloway Field 7 p.m.
