2020 All-Conference USA Team
Blaze Alldredge and Austin Trammell lead a list of five Rice Owls who were named to Phil Steele's All-Conference USA team. Alldredge and Trammell were named to the first team, Shea Baker and Jordan Myers to the second team and Jake Bailey to the fourth team as punt returner.
A repeat selection on the first team, Alldredge tied for third in the conference with 9.4 tackles per game and was named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Owls 20-0 shutout at No. 15 Marshall. He reached double figures in three of five games, was credited with a tackle for loss in each game and ended the season with a streak of 16 consecutive games with a tackle for loss.
Trammell led the Owls in receiving yards (335) and touchdowns (6), was second in scoring (36 points) and all-purpose yards (444) and and tied for the team lead in receptions (16). Prior to missing the final two games of the season, he led C-USA in points per game (12.7) and 20.9 yards per receptions, was 2nd in receiving yards per game (111.7) and 3rd in receptions per game (5.3). His six touchdown receptions are the most by an Owl in C-USA play since Jordan Taylor had six in nine games in 2014. Trammell also received honorable mention honors as a kick returner, averaging 27.3 yards per return.
Although listed as a tight end, Myers once again handled multiple assignments for the Owls including running back on goal line as well as punt and kick returns. He led the Owls with 24 receptions and his 4.8 receptions per game were a career high. He opened the season by matching his career best with six receptions vs. Middle Tennessee then surpassed that with eight catches for 73 yards vs. North Texas and eclipsed that number with nine vs. UAB.
Baker, who started all five games for the Owls in 2020, was named the offensive player of the game vs. Marshall for his work against the Herd defensive front.
Bailey averaged 20 yards per punt return and led the Owls in all-purpose yards (477). He was second on the team with 23 receptions, 276 receiving yards and two touchdown receptions. He shouldered a greater amount of the workload after Trammell was injured, catching a career-best seven passes against Marshall and then matching it the following week vs. UAB.
