Owls Return to Courts with a Pair of Duals
1/15/2021 9:47:00 PM | Men's Tennis
First action since March 11
In Brief: The Rice men's tennis team will take to the courts as a team for the first time in nearly 11 months on Saturday when the face UTSA and Trinity in a pair of duals on Saturday in San Antonio. The Owls and Roadrunners will open their 2021 dual campaigns at 11 a.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center and Rice will move on to take on Trinity at the Butch Newman Tennis Center at 4 p.m.
Getting Going : This will mark the first time the Owls have competed as a team since they dropped a 6-1 decision on March 11, 2020 to TCU. The fall campaign for the Owls was delayed by the pandemic and after receiving approval to compete in the ITA Texas Regional in late October, the Owls were forced to withdraw after two opening doubles matched due to contact tracing results.
Efe Ustundag: "We've had a great 10 days of training heading into this weekend and everyone on the team is knows we are fortunate to have the opportunity to compete. We all know that we can't take any future matches for granted, so any chance we have to step on the courts and compete will be special. I think our guys have spent a lot time these past months realizing how much they missed stepping on the court to face an opponent. We are very thankful for all the amazing work everyone at Rice has done to create this opportunity. I don't know what to expect in terms of the quality of the tennis we will see, but I expect Saturday to be high-energy tennis on all courts."

Up Next: Rice opens the 2021 home dual season on Sunday, January 24 by hosting Lamar at 11 a.m. and Prairie View A&M at 4 p.m. at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
