Wilson Added to Women's Basketball Staff

HOUSTON – Rice University women's basketball head coach Tina Langley announced the addition of assistant coach Nolan Wilson to her staff today on Friday. Wilson joins the Owls after most recently working with the NBA's Dallas Mavericks as an assistant coach in Player Development.
"We couldn't be more thrilled to welcome Nolan Wilson back to the Rice family," said Langley. "His experience as a player development coach with the Dallas Mavericks, combined with his incredible character, make him a tremendous fit for our program. Nolan has had the opportunity to learn from the most elite coaches in our profession and work with the best players in the world. He embodies our teams core values and we look forward to all he will contribute to the growth and development of our young women."
While with the Mavericks, Wilson assisted the coaching staff with on-court drills and the preparation of scouting reports. He worked closely with Player Development Coach, God Shammgod, and utilized RSPCT shot progression software to collect statistical shot tracking data.
He worked closely with former All-Star Kristaps Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Seth Curry. In addition, Wilson assisted in simulating scout offense/defense and game day preparation.
"I'm so grateful for Coach Langley and the opportunity to come back to Rice," said Wilson. "To see what she's made the program into since she's been here is proof that she is one of the best coaches in the game of basketball. This program has continued to show why it is one of the premier places to be in the country and I couldn't be more excited to join the team and continue to help us move in the right direction. The goals and core values of this program are those that I align myself with and I'm so happy to be back at Rice."
Wilson returns to the friendly confines of Tudor Fieldhouse where he served as Assistant Scouting and Recruiting Director under Langley during the 2018-19 season, a year in which the Owls won a school record 28 games and went 16-0 in league play, claiming a C-USA title.
In addition to assisting in recruiting, Wilson evaluated Owls' opponents by organizing and editing film while helping craft scouting reports.
A 2018 graduate at Prairie View A&M, Wilson played both football (defensive end) and basketball (forward) for the Panthers and after his playing days were over served as a graduate assistant on the basketball team.
Wilson is married to former Rice Owl great Maya Hawkins-Wilson, who ranks second in school history in made three-pointers and fourth in total assists.
