Rice was one of 227 Division I teams that earned the academic award, and in total 1,313 teams were honored, shattering the previous year's total of 1,125 for an all-time high. The Owls have received the AVCA Team Academic Award every year starting in 2008-09.
In addition, the Owls were one of 27 Division I teams recognized for reaching their Dig Pink fundraising goals through the Side-Out Foundation.
Last season the Owls placed 14 student-athletes on the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll this past year with Lee Ann Cunningham, Nicole Lennon, and Tori Woogk earning C-USA All-Academic Team honors.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
