Record-Setting Classroom Work Honored by C-USA

Student-athletes combine for a 3.53 GPA in 2019-20
Rice student-athletes earned the school's 12th Conference USA Institutional Excellence Award in 15 years in the conference, posting a record-setting combined 3.53 GPA while nine sports were honored for their GPA for the 2019-20 academic year to tie another record.
The Owls' combined GPA bested the previous mark of 3.29 set by the Owls in 2016-17 and matched by FIU last year. The Institutional Excellence Award annually recognizes the C-USA institution with the highest grade point average during the past academic year for all student-athletes in conference-sponsored sports.
The Sport Academic Awards honor the team in each conference-sponsored sport with the highest GPA for the academic year. Rice's baseball, football golf, men's basketball, men's and women's cross country, soccer and men's and women's track and field were honored, matching the record set by the Owls in in their first year in the conference (2005-06) and matched in 2015-16.
Football, golf, women's cross country and men's track and field were repeat honorees from 2019. Football, women's cross country and men's track and field have been honored for six consecutive years while golf has received the award the in each of the last four years.
Rice has received 96 C-USA Sport Academic Awards in its 15 years as a member of Conference USA.
