HOUSTON – Rice volleyball head coach Genny Volpe announced the addition of Erin Fairs to the staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
Fairs, a native of Richmond, Texas (Foster HS), played collegiately at both the University of South Florida (2012-14) and Louisville (2015) before traveling overseas to play professionally from 2016-20.
"I can't wait to be a part of this awesome coaching staff and group of girls," said Fairs. "I've gotten the chance to watch this program makes great strides these last few years and I know that this upcoming season will be a blast. I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity and it means a lot for them to trust me to contribute to such a prestigious university and program. I can't wait to get started."
Fairs signed her first professional contract with Engelholms in the Swedish league and went on to win the 2015-16 Elitserien (Swedish volleyball women's championships).
Fairs would end up playing in Turkey (Maltepe Yali SK), Puerto Rico (Polluelas de Aibonito) and Romania (CSM Targoviste). After finishing the 2017-18 season in Romania, Fairs was a member of "Team Dream," which won the USA Adult Open National Championship. The squad was the first ever all-African American team to compete in the women's open division at the event. She then signed on with Trefl Proxima Krakow in Poland for the 2018-19 season before playing for Aris Thessloniki in Greece last year.
Fairs began her collegiate career at USF, where she earned Big East Freshman of the Year honors in 2012 and American Athletic Conference Player of the Year nods in 2013. As a junior, she garnered first team All-American Athletic Conference accolades.
Once making the jump to Louisville, Fairs led the Cardinals with 4.36 points and 3.87 kills per set, while also adding 1.32 digs per set and 18 aces en route to AVCA Honorable Mention All-America honors and First Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference.
As a four-year starter at Foster High School under head coach Tara Domel, Fairs was named First Team All District in 2010 and was Honorable Mention All Texas Team in 2010. She made the Under Armour "All American Watch List" in 2011. Fairs also played for the Southwest Juniors club team as well as for the Absolute Volleyball Academy (AVA).
