Davis and Monfiletto assume position groups
Dunlevie Family Head Football Coach Mike Bloomgren formally announced on Thursday the promotion of two members of his current football staff. Chris Monfiletto, who served in a quality control role with the Owls' offense in 2019, has been named the new tight ends coach while Sanders Davis, who was an offensive graduate assistant last season, will be the Owls new offensive line coach.
"Coach Monfiletto's head coaching experience has been priceless to me since joining our staff last year," Bloomgren noted. "I am thrilled that he will have his own room (TE's) to mold and develop with the attention to detail and passion for our game that he displays every day. Coach Davis is a great teacher and researcher. He will combine those traits with his demanding personality to take our offensive linemen to new heights.
"Both of these coaches are outstanding men and will thrive as relationship builders in recruiting," Bloomgren added.
Monfiletto joined the Owls staff in 2019 after seven years as the head coach and quarterbacks coach at Kenyon College. He took over a Kenyon program in 2012 that was coming off consecutive winless seasons. In his first season, the team produced the school's first winning season since 2005. The next season saw Kenyon win more games in a two-year period since 1988-89. In 2017, Monfiletto's offense averaged 366.4 yards per game, ranking 21st in NCAA DIII in passing and yards per game, led by a pair of receivers who ranked in the DIII top 10.
Monfiletto came to Kenyon from Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where he directed an offense that averaged approximately 360 yards and 28 points per game. In addition to his football coaching duties, Monfiletto also served as Lycoming's Director of Athletics from July-December 2011. He also served as the head coach at Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio from 2008-2010, and prior to that spent three years as a running backs coach and recruiting coordinator at Davidson College.
Monfiletto played football at Davidson College, where he graduated in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in History and went onto earn a master's degree in Athletic Administration from Ohio University's College of Business in 2011.
Davis joined the Owls in 2019 as an offensive graduate assistant.
He came to Rice after five seasons at Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he was the run game coordinator and offensive line coach, helping to guide the Bears to a pair of Division 1 state titles as well as a runner-up finish in 2018 in Louisiana's highest classification. In addition to his football duties, Davis served as the head soccer coach, a strength coach, and an English teacher.
Davis was a standout lineman for the Bears before graduating in 2010. He played center at Dartmouth from 2010-13, graduating in 2014 and then returned home to Baton Rouge to teach and coach at his alma mater.
