Men’s Basketball Opens Home Slate against LeTourneau

HOUSTON — Rice begins its 2020-21 home schedule this Thursday, Dec. 3 when it hosts LeTourneau. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the game will be livestreamed by CUSAtv.
Scouting Rice
• Rice enters Thursday's game with a 2-0 record after defeating Incarnate Word and Our Lady of the Lake at the season opening Thanksgiving Invitational.
• Sophomore guard Travis Evee leads the Owls with 15.0 points per game while connecting on a team-best 41.2% from three.
• Sophomore forward Max Fiedler is averaging a double-double, scoring 13.0 points per game while pulling down a team-best 11.5 rebounds.
• Junior guard Chris Mullins is scoring 13.0 points per game while leading the team with 3.5 assists per game.
• Junior guard Payton Moore is averaging 9.5 points per game while connecting on 66.7% from the field and graduate forward Tre Clark is pulling down 10.0 rebounds per game.
• Rice is averaging 85.5 points while allowing 58.5.
• The Owls are connecting on 46.9% from the floor and just 30.5% from three while holding their opponents to 35.0% from the field and just 29.6% from three.
• Head coach Scott Pera begins his fourth season leading the Rice men's basketball program. He holds a record of 37-60.
Scouting LeTourneau
• LeTourneau begins the season after finishing 23-6 last year and 13-3 in the American Southwest Conference.
• LTU welcomes back 11 letterwinners from last year's squad, including three starters. LeTourneau also welcomes six newcomers.
• The Yellow Jackets return six of its top seven scorers, led by ASC Second Team All-East Division, senior guard Justin Moore. Moore was second on the team with 13.5 points per game and third with 5.8 rebounds per game.
• Sophomore forward John Argue was second on the team with 12.1 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game.
• Head coach Dan Miller begins his seventh season leading the Incarnate Word men's basketball program, where he holds a 130.60 (.684) record.
Rice-LeTourneau Series History
• This will be the first-ever regular season meeting between Rice and LeTourneau.
• The teams have met twice in exhibition games.
• Rice defeated LTU, 82-64, in 2014 and 102-78, in 2015.
Rice vs. Non-Division I
• Since 2000, Rice is 29-2 against non-Division I teams, including having won its last 12.
• This will be the second of two games against non-Division I teams. Rice defeated Our Lady of the Lake, 103-64, on Nov. 28 in the Thanksgiving Invitational.
• Rice's last loss was a 65-54 defeat to Alaska-Anchorage in the 2014 Great Alaska Shootout.
