SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Rice connected on 14 three-pointers on its way to a 103-64 victory over Our Lady of the Lake in its finale of the Thanksgiving Invitational, Saturday afternoon from the McDermott Center.
The Story
Rice opened the game with a 12-4 lead through the first five minutes. Our Lady of the Lake then scored 11 of the next 16 points to pull within two points, 17-15. But, five straight points by Chris Mullins pushed Rice's lead to seven points. The teams traded a pair of free throws before two straight OLLU baskets cut the Rice lead to 24-21 with 6:46 left in the first half. However, a pair of Mullins free throws sent Rice on an 11-2 run. The Saints twice pulled within 10 points, but the Owls closed the half on a 14-3 run to take a 51-30 lead into halftime.
After hitting six three-pointers in the first half, Travis Evee kept it going to begin the second half, hitting back-to-back three-pointers. After an OLLU basket, Fiedler made a pair of free throws. Rice then scored seven of nine points, capped off by a Riley Abercrombie three-pointer. The Saints would get no closer than 27 points with Rice leading by as many as 41.

What Scott Pera Had to Say
"I'm proud of the guys. It's been a long preseason. They had a lot of fun. Preseason's are always long. This one was extra long. To get these two games in was great. We've got all these new guys that are learning to play together. We put 103 (points) on the board today. I'm proud of them. I think we still have a ways to go. We're going to keep getting better. Defensively, we'll improve there as well. Any time you win, you're happy and we're very happy to drive home 2-0.
