Series Notes
• This is the 95th meeting between the two schools in a series that began on October 17, 1914 when Texas blanked Rice 41-0 in Austin.
• Texas leads the all-time series 72-21-1, including a 28-13-1 mark in Houston and 3-0 at NRG Stadium. Texas has won 13 straight in the overall series.
• Rice's last win over Texas came in 1994 at Rice Stadium (19-17) in a game moved to a Sunday night broadcast on ESPN to fill a slot vacated by the cancellation of the remainder of the 1994 season because of the strike by players.
• The two schools played continuously through the end of Southwest Conference in 1995. The series resumed on an intermittent basis in 1997, playing eight times in Austin, three times at Reliant Stadium and once at Rice Stadium (1997). They have met 12 times in a non-conference setting since then, with Texas winning all 12.
Milestones
In addition to joining all of college football in celebrating the sport's 150th birthday, Rice will also celebrate several other milestones in 2019. This season will be the 70th in Rice Stadium and the Owls game with Marshall on November 2 will be the 100th Homecoming at Rice. The Owls will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of their earning a share of the Southwest Conference title and win over Texas when the Owls host the Longhorns at NRG Stadium on Saturday.
Playing Down the Street
Saturday's game will the the 10th time the Owls have played at NRG Stadium since it opened in 2002. They made their debut with a 37-20 win over LA Tech on 10/5/02 and have posted a 3-6 mark in the stadium. Their last win at NRG came in the 2008 Texas Bowl when they defeated Western Michigan. Rice and Houston also met 11 times at NRG's next door neighbor, The Astrodome, from 1973-94.
C-USA to Honor Dillard and Graham
Two-time All-American Jarett Dillard and Hall of Fame baseball coach Wayne Graham will be honored during Saturday's game by Conference USA in recognition of their selection to C-USA's inaugural Hall of Fame class. Rice's third member of the class (Anthony Rendon) will not be able to attend. Dillard was one of three football standouts among the 25 members of the class, joining with Case Keenum of Houston and DeAngelo Williams of Memphis. He was the dominant receiver in Conference USA in the Owls' first four seasons in the league, his final two with Tom Herman as his OC. He led Rice to its first bowl appearance in 45 years as a sophomore in 2006 and its first bowl victory in 54 years in 2008. He smashed the conference and NCAA record with 60 career touchdown receptions and with a touchdown reception in 13 consecutive games in 2006. He ended his career as C-USA's career leader with 4,136 yards and his 60 career touchdowns tied the conference record. He was a two-time All-America selection in addition to earning all-conference honors in three consecutive seasons and being named a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award in 2006. He was inducted into the Rice Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015. Graham led the Rice baseball team to conference regular season and/or tournament titles in 11 of the 13 seasons the Owls were members of C-USA while representing the conference in three College World Series, five NCAA Super Regionals and 12 regionals. He compiled a 215-99-2 record in 13 seasons of C-USA action and was a five-time C-USA Coach of the Year.
