Golf Continues Spring Season at 34th Annual Louisiana Classics

HOUSTON — Rice continues its spring season next Monday-Tuesday, February 25-26, when it travels to Lafayette, La, for the Louisiana Classics. The tournament will be played at the par-72, 6,866-yard Oakbourne Country Club.

TEAM FIELD
No. 29 Illinois leads the field at the Louisiana Classics. Also joining Rice in the field are host Louisiana-Lafayette, Kent State, Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, UMKC, North Texas, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston State, Southern Miss, Texas State, Toledo, UTSA and Wichita State.

Jake Benson – No. 1 position … leads the team with a 72.31 stroke average … has led the team in five of the first six tournaments … has nine rounds of par or better … set career marks for low round (67), low 36-hole score (138) and low 54-hole score (208) at the Trinity Forest Invitational, where he tied for 15th-place (-5) … tied for 16th-place at the season-opening Lone Star Invitational (+3) … fired a final round 69 … had the best finish of his career at the Maridoe Intercollegiate, tying for ninth-place … also tied for ninth at the spring-opening All-American Intercollegiate.
Austin Escamilla – No. 2 position … has a 77.14 stroke average … made his collegiate debut at the season-opening Lone Star Invitational, finishing in 79th-place … fired a final round 70 at the Trinity Forest Invitational, his first career round under par … had the best finish of his career at the All-American Intercollegiate, tying for 36th-place.

Nicholas Duggan – No. 4 position … is second on the team with a 74.50 stroke average … has led the team in two tournaments … has four rounds of par or better … tied for 15th-place at the Ram Masters Invitational … set or tied career-bests at the Ram Masters for low round (68), low 36-hole score (138) and low 54-hole score (213) … tied for 16th-place at the season-opening Lone Star Invitational (+3).
Harrison Hineline – No. 5 position …is averaging 75.50 strokes … has recorded two rounds of par or better … made his collegiate debut at the Trinity Forest Invitational, tying for 45th-place … fired a 70 in the first round … had the best finish of his young career at the All-American Intercollegiate, tying for 36th-place.
PAIRINGS
For Monday's first and second rounds, the Owls will tee off from holes No. 9-12 beginning at 8 a.m. CT. Rice will compete in groups with student-athletes from McNeese State, Southern Miss and Texas State. Tuesday's tee times and pairings will depend on results from the previous round.
UP NEXT
Following the Louisiana Classsics, the Owls will travel to Cabo, Mexico, for the Querencia Cabo Intercollegiate on Mar. 3-5.
