Owls Next Host No. 25 UC-Irvine Starting On Friday
An Arizona squad that came into the contest 4-0 and averaging more than 17 runs per game continued to showcase its offensive firepower with 16 runs on 17 hits. Seven of the scores were unearned as the Owls made eight errors in the field, the most by the team in a single game since 1997. Six Rice pitchers saw action on the night.
On the offensive side Rice finished the night with five runs on eight hits. Senior Brandt Frazier drove in a pair of runs on two hits. Not only did junior transfer Aaron Beaulaurier collect his first Division I base hit, he finished the night with two doubles to drive in a run. Rice is now 2-3 overall this season.
The Owls' season-opening homestand is still in full swing. Rice next hosts No. 25 ranked UC-Irvine in a three-game weekend series beginning on Feb. 22. Start time Friday is set for 6:30 pm at Reckling Park. Saturday's contest is set for 2 pm. First pitch Sunday vs. the Anteaters is slated for 1 pm.
