Second career honor for Lennon, first for Adekunle
HOUSTON – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced on Wednesday that Rice junior outside hitter Nicole Lennon and sophomore middle blocker Anota Adekunle were each named All-America Honorable Mention.
Lennon earned her second-straight All-America honor by recording 505 kills (4th-most in a Rice single-season) and 362 digs. Lennon established a league record with seven C-USA Offensive Player of the Week awards, backing up her C-USA Preseason Player of the Year accolades.
The junior currently ranks 11th in the NCAA in kills per set (4.78-1st in C-USA) and 17th in points per set (5.22-1st in C-USA). Also selected to the C-USA All-Academic Team, Lennon recorded 20 double-doubles this season and had eight matches with 20 or more kills.
Adekunle, who became the 16th different Owl to earn All-American accolades, ranks sixth in the NCAA in hitting percentage (.425- Rice single-season record) this season. A C-USA First Team selection, Adekunle stepped up her game even more in league play, ranking second in C-USA with a .462 hitting percentage, sixth in kills per set (3.60), and sixth in blocks per set (1.11).
Adekunle was named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 14 and was a C-USA Preseason honoree. She ranked second on the Owls in total kills (340), kills per set (3.18), total attacks (634), blocks per set (0.86) and points (398.0).
