El Jardi Joins Owls

Rice women's tennis coach Elizabeth Schmidt has announced the addition of Moroccan junior standout Diae El Jardi to the Owls roster for the start of the 2019 dual season.
El Jardi comes to Rice after reaching as high as 38th in the ITF Junior rankings during 2018, highlighted by capturing the singles title and reaching the doubles final at the 2018 ITF/CAT African Junior Closed Championships.
She competed internationally for two years as a member of the ITF/Grand Slam Development Fund team, which provides players with the opportunity to take part in top international competition as well as gain invaluable experience of traveling abroad as part of a team under the guidance of an ITF coach.
"We are thrilled that Diae is a Rice Owl,' Schmidt said. "Not only is she an outstanding tennis player but she is also an exceptional person. She has a tremendous work ethic, high character, and will be a wonderful addition to our program."
