Owl Teams Presented League’s Top Academic Honor For 11th Time In 13 Years
IRVING, Texas – Rice University student-athletes combined for a 3.260 grade point average to earn the 2017-2018 Conference USA Institutional Excellence Award, the 11th time in the last 13 years for the Owls to take home the league's top academic honor.
The C-USA Institutional Excellence Award is given annually to the school with the highest grade point average during the academic year for all student-athletes in conference-sponsored sports. Rice has been a C-USA member for 13 years after joining the league for the 2005-2006 season.
The Sport Academic Award is given to a specific team in each conference-sponsored sport with the highest GPA for the academic year. Seven different Rice teams recorded the highest GPA for their respective sports. Additionally, nine other institutions were recognized. Rice does not field teams in the C-USA sports of softball, men's soccer and women's golf.
