San Antonio, Texas — Rice is tied for seventh-place after two rounds of the Lone Star Invitational, played at the par-72, 7,247-yard Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
The Owls are six-over par after carding rounds of 288-294, tied with Louisiana-Monroe. No. 11 Oklahoma leads the team tournament at 11-under par, 13 strokes in front of second-place Arkansas State and UTEP.
"The golf course was set up very difficult with hole locations that we haven't seen on this course in years past," said head coach Justin Emil. "The guys handled it well and hung in there even with the gusty winds and difficult setup. We just need a few more putts to go in tomorrow."
Sophomore Nicholas Duggan is tied for ninth-place at one-under par. He opened with a season-low 70 before carding a 73. His 36-hole score of 143 is a season-best and the 70 is his fourth round of par or better this year and the 11th of his career.
Senior Mitchell Meissner is tied for 12th-place at even-par. He opened the tournament with a 73 before posting a 71. The 71 is his 13th round of par or better this year and the 34th of his career.
Freshman Jake Benson is one-over par, tied for 20th-place. He began the tournament with a 71 before posting a 74. His 36-hole score of 145 was a season-best and the 71 was his fifth round of par or better this year.
Senior Mario Carmona is tied for 50th-place at six-over par after carding rounds of 74-76 and junior Grant Rogers is eight-over par and tied for 59th-place after rounds of 74-78.
Junior Mason Weld withdrew during the first two rounds.
Oklahoma's Grant Hirschman and Arkansas State's Jakub Bares are tied for the individual lead at four-under par. There is a three-way tie for third-place at three-under par.
The final round begins tomorrow with Rice teeing off at 8:30 a.m.
