The Rice women's tennis team opened their Spring Break set of matches by dropping a 4-0 decision to Denver on Sunday.
The Owls (6-6) saw the Pioneers (9-4) take the early lead in by grabbing the doubles point and put added presser on Rice by winning four of six first sets in singles. Denver then locked up the match by completing straight set wins in three of those four sets.
"We are going through a bit of a tough stretch here and, while it isn't any consolation, we are close to breaking through," Rice head coach Elizabeth Schmidt said "We have all the pieces of the puzzle. Now we just need to keep working hard and getting after it in order to put it all together. We'll get a good practice in tomorrow and then have another opportunity on Tuesday."
Rice wraps up its trip on Tuesday when they take on the Colorado Buffaloes at 1 p.m.
