Women's XC Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Award

NEW ORLEANS - The Rice women's cross country team was named an NCAA Division I All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the organization announced on Friday.
Qualifications for the honor include a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and the squad competing at the regional level of the NCAA Championship. The Owls concluded the 2017 season with a 3.82 GPA.
In addition, Khayla Patel earned USTFCCCA individual academic honors. Patel, a sophomore from Houston, placed 19th at the South Central Regional while posting a 3.46 GPA.
In order to qualify for the individual honor, athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at regionals or as an All-American in the national meet.
Overall, 423 teams brought home All-Academic honors with 228 women's programs and 195 men's programs.
