TCU Overtakes Rice, 4-2

Michaela Haet and Savannah Durkin picked up wins in singles, but host TCU stormed back from an early deficit to down Rice 4-2 at the Bayard Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth on Saturday.
In a rematch of a first round meeting in the 2017 NCAA Championship that was moved indoors due to weather, TCU struck first with by taking the doubles point with a win on two after the two teams split decisions on courts on and three.
Rice's 17th ranked duo of Lindsey Hodge and Wendy Zhang remained unbeaten in dual action with a 6-2 win over TCU‘s 43rd ranked Donika Bashota and Elizabeth Tedford to account for the Owls win in doubles.
Durkin picked up an early win in singles when TCU's Stevie Kennedy retired in the second set, trailing 7-5, 3-0 and Haet followed up with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Donika Bashota, but TCU close out the match with straight set wins on courts four, two and one.
"Obviously everyone is gutted we couldn't pull out the team W as we definitely had opportunities," Rice head coach Elizabeth Schmidt said. "But, I know that our team is headed in the right direction. This team has already grown in several areas since kickoff weekend to today and we'll get back to work the next few days to continue that growth."
The 0wls will have a quick turnaround at return to action on Wednesday when they host Texas A&M at 2 p.m. at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
