Three Owls Earn All-Freshman Honors

HOUSTON — Shea Baker, Prudy Calderon and Treshawn Chamberlain were honored by the Conference USA head coaches as members of the 2018 C-USA All-Freshman Team. The three selections are the fourth-most in the conference behind Charlotte, FIU and WKU.
Baker started all 13 games at center and helped anchor the Rice offensive line, earning him a spot on the rookie squad.
Prudy Calderon saw action in every game, while earning the start at strong safety in the final eight games. Calderon recorded 38 tackles, including seven pass breakups. He became the first Owl with four interceptions since Phillip Gaines in 2013 and is the first Rice freshman to have multiple interceptions in a season since Bryce Callahan had six as a redshirt freshman in 2011.
Treshawn Chamberlain started the last eight games for the Owls. He was fifth on the team in tackles with 50, while recording one sack and 4.5 tackles for loss. He also had three quarterback hurries while forcing and recovering one fumble. His 10 tackles at LSU were the most in a game by a freshman this year.
