Rice Falls at Texas State, 74-60

SAN MARCOS, Texas — Rice shot just 35.8% from the floor as it fell to Texas State, 74-60, Wednesday night in Strahan Arena.
What Scott Pera Had to Say
"You start with matching their intensity and they start five upperclassmen. That's one thing. To a point, we did that. But, again, the first possession of the game, we didn't get a rebound and (Texas State) hits a three. So it wasn't up to my standard of what it needed to be. But along with that comes production. You have to be able to make plays, produce and work on the things that we work on in practice and take it to the game. We did at times. We made some really good plays. But you can't shoot 19-for-53 (and) 7-for-24 (from three) and win games on the road. You just can't. But I'm encouraged by our defensive effort."
The Story
Texas State scored nine of the first 11 points. Rice scored seven straight points to pull even but the Bobcats went on a 13-4 run to take a 22-13 lead. Josh Parrish scored all seven points in a 7-2 run to get within five, but a 7-0 run gave Texas State its largest lead of the first half, 32-20, with 2:23 to play. The teams traded baskets the rest of the way as Rice went into halftime trailing 36-26. Texas State extended its lead to 46-30 in the first three minutes of the second half. The teams traded baskets before Rice went on an 8-2 run to pull within 53-42 with 12:18 to play. But the Bobcats went on an 11-0 run to take its largest lead of the game at 64-42. Rice would get no close than 12 points the rest of the way.
