Five runners earn all-conference accolades
The third place finish for the Owls marked the 10th time in the last 14 years they have finished in the top three. North Texas won the league title with 43 points, followed by Charlotte at 50 points for second place.
The Owls had five runners earn all-conference honors and were led by sophomore Hociel Landa, who placed 10th overall in the 8k race with a time of 24:47 to earn Second Team accolades.
"This was the best meet all year for us," Rice head coach Jon Warren said. "We had five guys as all-conference performers, the problem was so did two other teams. It was a solid showing from everyone on our team. North Texas and Charlotte, as well as UTEP and Louisiana Tech, had great meets. Our guys ran smart and tough and this was just a very good day for us."
Sophomore Alex Topini also earned Second Team All-Conference honors by placing 13th (24:55), while senior Clay Musial (15th-25:02), senior Bradley Dohner (18th-25:19) and junior Adolfo Carvalho (21st-25:34) took home Third Team All-Conference honors. Just missing all-conference recognition was sophomore Matthew Murray, who placed 23rd overall in a time of 25:48.
In addition to the Owls top six runners, the rest of the team finished in this order: Andrew Abikhaled (29th-26:03), Connor Meaux (35th-26:21), and Trenton Fryman (46th-26:53).
Next up for the Owls is the NCAA South Central Regional, which will be held Nov. 9 in College Station hosted by Texas A&M. That race is scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m.
