Rice Drops Heartbreaker at Old Dominion

NORFOLK, Va. – Miklo Smalls' pass was intercepted with 21 seconds remaining and Rice's comeback attempt fell short, as the Owls dropped a 24-21 decision at Old Dominion Saturday afternoon.
Smalls gave Rice the lead with 2:05 remaining, driving 80 yards and culminating with a three-yard touchdown run. However, ODU drove 75 yards in just 1:28 to retake the lead.
Rice started off fast, scoring on its first drive of the game. However, the Owls were held off the scoreboard until the fourth quarter when Nahshon Ellerbe pulled them to within 17-14 on a nine-yard run.
Smalls rushed 16 times for 84 yards and a touchdown. Ellerbe rushed 19 times for 69 yards and a touchdown and Austin Walter added 66 yards and a score.
