SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Rice dropped a hard-fought game to UTSA, 20-7, Saturday night in the Alamodome in San Antonio.
After UTSA fumbled on its first possession, Rice drove 23 yards before the Roadrunners returned a Sam Glaesmann fumble 34 yards for the game's first score. UTSA added a field goal in the first quarter to go up 10-0.
The teams traded punts, including one that pinned the Owls on their own four-yard line. However, Rice drove 10 plays in 4:11 as Glaesmann connected with Aaron Cephus on a 50-yard touchdown pass to pull within 10-7 heading into halftime.
Rice got the ball to start the second half. However, on the second play, Glaesmann's pass was intercepted. The Roadrunners then drove down the field, scoring on a 26-yard pass. UTSA added a field goal to close out the scoring.
Brian Womac had a career day, recording nine tackles, four tackles for loss and three sacks. Cephus added two catches for 105 yards, his first career 100-yard receiving day.
