
Singles Opens Strongly at David Kent Invitational

The Rice women's tennis team swept to wins in six of seven singles matches to highlight action in the first day of play in Texas A&M's David Kent Invitational at the Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station on Friday.
Rice won all five matches against players from TCU while splitting a pair against players from Stephen F. Austin in the round robin format. In doubles action the Owls dropped two of three against the host Aggies.
Katherine Ip, Lindsey Hodge, Savannah Durkin and Alison Ho all won their matches against TCU in straight sets while Wendy Zhang shook off a first set loss to win in three sets. Priya Niezgoda picked up a straight set win vs. Stephen F. Austin while Fernanda Astete dropped a three-set match.
