IRVING, Texas - Rice junior Cali Roper was voted the Conference USA Female Cross Country Athlete of the Year by the league's head coaches as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Since the award's inception in 1995, Roper becomes only the third runner in C-USA history to win the award in consecutive years (Risper Kimaiyo, UTEP, 2009-10 and Hanne Lyngstad, Tulane, 1998-99) and the fourth to win the award multiple years.
Roper capped off a stellar season by placing 56th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Ky. on Nov. 21. The Willis, Texas native won her second consecutive C-USA individual title in 2015 to help lead the Owls to their third C-USA team title in school history.
Aside from winning two individual races, Roper placed in the top five four times and was the first Owl since Pam Klassen (1985-86) to qualify for consecutive NCAA Championships as an individual.
Roper was also named to the 2015 C-USA All-Academic Team for a second straight year with a 3.75 GPA in Sports Management.
