HOUSTON - The Rice baseball team rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but came up just 90 feet short in a 6-5 loss to visiting Texas A&M Tuesday night at Reckling Park.
The Owls surrendered five early runs and fell behind 6-0 before chipping away for a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. With no shortage of drama, the Blue & Gray then rallied for three more in the ninth to cut the margin to 6-5 and had the bases-loaded before the Aggies could finally stop the comeback.
The Owls are now 29-14 on the season. Texas A&M improved to 25-17 overall.
Rice next returns to Conference USA league play with a three-game weekend series at Southern Miss April 25-27. First pitch Friday at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg, Miss., is slated for 6 pm.
