Rice Wins Overtime Thriller at Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. - In its first overtime action of the season, Rice University football topped division rival Tulsa, 30-27, in overtime on Saturday night at H.A. Chapman Stadium.
The Golden Hurricane rallied from a 24-10 deficit and tied the game with a field goal with just 1:07 remaining in regulation to force the extra period.
Rice won the coin toss and elected to defend. After holding the Tulsa offense to six yards on three carries, the home team booted a 36-yard field goal to take its first lead of the afternoon.
The Owls (3-2, 2-0 C-USA) needed just two plays to respond, as senior Taylor McHargue found an open Darik Dillard for a 25-yard touchdown pass.
It marked Rice's first overtime win since 2006, when the Owls accomplished the feat at Tulsa. That was also Rice's last win against the outgoing Conference USA member.
Freshman Jawon Davis ran for 58 yards on 10 carries, while Turner Petersen caught five passes for 78 yards and a score. McHargue completed 13-of-21 passes for 177 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Michael Kutzler paced the defense with 11 tackles on the day, while Malcolm Hill and Julius White each nabbed interceptions. Christian Covington forced a fumble, which was recovered by Paul Porras as well.
