LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Rice University football racked up a season-high 409 yards on the ground en route to a 45-19 win over New Mexico State on Saturday night at Aggie Memorial Stadium.
In the final non-conference game of the season, the Owls (5-2) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back to finish a three-game road trip with a win.
Charles Ross racked up a career-high 167 yards and a score on 26 carries, good for 6.4 yards per tote.
Taylor McHargue added 90 yards and three touchdowns on the ground to accompany his 89 passing yards on 8-of-14 attempts. He connected with Jordan Taylor for a 17-yard touchdown strike in the second quarter to give the visitors a 28-12 cushion at the half.
Dennis Parks matched a career high with three catches and led Rice with 51 receiving yards on the night.
Defensively, James Radcliffe made seven tackles, while Phillip Gaines and Austin Laudenslager each hauled in an interception.
Rice posted 26 first downs and amassed 515 yards of total offense (6.3 yards per play) on the night. The Owls held the Aggies (0-7) to 328 yards of offense.
Chris Boswell tacked on a 50-yard kick in the game. It was the 13th in his career of 50 yards or more.
Driphus Jackson added a fifth rushing score for the Owls on a four-yard scamper late in the game.
Rice returns home for the first time in four weeks to host UTEP on Oct. 26. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at Rice Stadium as the Owls look to improve to 4-0 in Conference USA action.
