Harry Fowler, who posted a 10-10 record while playing most of the year in the No. 1 singles position for the Owls, has earned a spot on the 2011 Men's Tennis All-Conference USA first team, the conference office announced today.
He was joined by teammates Christian Saravia and Jonathan Chang, who qualified for the second team in singles and teamed with Oscar Podlewski to earn second team honors in doubles, along with the team of Peter Frank and Sam Garforth-Bles.
All conference designations in singles include six first-team and six second-team selections and these 12 spots will come directly from the most current ITA rankings. In doubles, the top six pairs earn honors.
Fowler closed out the regular season ranked 84th in the country and clinched the Owls berth in a sixth consecutive C-USA team final with a three-set win over SMU's Artem Baradach, who entered the match ranked 47th in the country.
Saravia and Chang used solid fall campaigns along with their spring efforts to earn spots on the second team. Saravia was a combined 19-11 between the two seasons, while Chang was 10-4 overall.
Fowler and Podlewski combined to lead the team with a 12-7 doubles record, while Frank and Garforth-Bles entered the national rankings after joining forces during the year and posting a pair of wins over nationally ranked opponents.
The 43rd ranked Owls will make their ninth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship on Friday, May 13 when they meet 22nd ranked Texas Tech at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
