Rice Opens Play at SWC Shootout

FORT WORTH - Rice University tennis players Jonathan Chang, Michael Nusslein and Andy Wang all won first-round matches as the Owls began play Friday at the Southwest Conference Shootout. The tournament continues through Sunday at TCU's Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
Both Chang and Nuesslein came back from first set losses to earn first-round wins.
In a tightly fought battle in the Flight B Draw, Chang came back to claim a 6-7 (9-11), 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 victory over Texas' Jacoby Lewis. He will face TCU's J.T. Sundling Saturday in the draw's semifinals.
Nusslein put a first-set loss behind him as well to post a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory over Texas Tech's Gabriel Wanderley. Next up for Nuesslein is a Saturday match against Texas' Sudanwa Sitaram.
Also on Friday, Wang defeated TCU's Blake Wiggins 6-4, 6-3. Wang advances to take on Collin County's Kyle Rowe.
On Saturday, the Owls will have five other players competing in consolation bracket singles matches as well as four doubles matches.
