Tachibana, Fowler Advance at ITA Regional

COLLEGE STATION - Rice University's Isamu Tachibana and Harry Fowler have both advanced to the Round of 32 at the ITA Regional being hosted this week by Texas A&M.
Tachibana opened play with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Lamar's Dusan Savkovic and will take on Baylor's Lars Behlen, seeded No. 9 at the tournament, on Saturday.
Fowler opened play with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Texas Tech's Gabriel Wanderley and will face SMU's Pablo Perez on Saturday.
Michael Nusslein and Jonathan Chang also grabbed opening round wins on Friday.
After an opening-round loss, Leif Berger will play in the consolation draw Saturday morning. Berger will play the winner of a match between Lamar's Rob Lee and TCU's Blake Wiggins.
Also, in a 32-player consolation draw which begins Saturday morning, Rice's Phillip Seifert, Andy Wang, Peter Frank, Jonathan Chang and Sam Garforth-Bles will all compete.
Seifert will play Baylor's Robert Verzaal. Wang faces Lamar's Carlos Valdenebro. Frank squares off with Texas A&M's Beau Blackshear. Chang plays UTA's Jason Lateko. Garforth-Bles continues play against Texas' Alex Hilliard.
In doubles play, Fowler and Nusslein teamed for an 8-5 win over the No. 5 seeds at the regional, Baylor's Behlan and Luis Grangeiro. Up next for Fowler and Nusslein is Texas A&M's Jeremy Efferding and Colin Hoover on Saturday afternoon.
Chang and Tachibana posted a 9-8 (6) win over SMU's Tobias Flood and Joe Hattrup to advance to the Round of 16. Up next for the Rice tandem is Texas' Ben Chen and Daniel Whitehead on Saturday.
