
Owls Ready to Host Rice Fall Invite

Rice University's tennis team will face a challenging tournament field when the Owls play host to the 53rd Rice Fall Invite presented by Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites Medical Center Friday through Sunday at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
LSU, Texas, Texas-Arlington and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi complete the tournament field which will feature four singles draws and two doubles draws. The Rice Fall Invite begins Friday morning with doubles matches at 9 a.m.
"The great thing about our tournament is everybody is guaranteed three singles and three doubles matches," said Rice head coach Ron Smarr. "The weather looks great and we are looking forward to it. It will give us an indication of how our new players look and what shape our old guys are in."
Singles play begins with the "A" Singles Draw Friday at 10 a.m. Rice junior Isamu Tachibana will take on UTA's Mindaugas Celedinas while freshman Peter Frank takes on LSU's Stefan Szacinski.
Also at 10 a.m. Rice junior Sam Garforth-Bles takes on LSU's Julien Gauthier while Owls' newcomer Harry Fowler opens tournament play against LSU's Tom Knights in the "B" Singles Draw.
Competing for the Owls in the "C" Singles Draw will be senior Oscar Podlewski and freshman Philipp Seifert. Rice junior Christian Saravia and sophomore Jonathan Chang will compete for the Owls in the "D" Singles Draw.
Podlewski begins play facing Texas' Chris Camillone while Seifert plays Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's James Langford. Saravia plays UTA's Brieuc Hamon in first-round action while Chang faces LSU's Roger Anderson.
