Seifert Advances to HEB Baylor Invitational Semifinals

WACO - Rice University freshman Philipp Jan Seifert defeated Elliot Minvielle 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 Saturday to advance to the semifinals of the Men's Open Singles B draw of the HEB Baylor Invitational. Seifert will play Alex Grubbs Sunday.
Earlier in the day, Seifert posted a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Texas-Pan American's Marcus Dornauf in the Round of 16.
Also on Saturday, Rice freshman Peter Frank claimed a 7-5, 6-4 win over Texas Tech's Rafael Garcia in the Round of 16 but lost in the quarterfinals to New Mexico State's Arthur Surreaux 3-6, 7-6, 6-0.
Rice had a total of four netters advance to the Round of 16 of the two draws.
Andy Wang began the second day of the Singles B draw by defeating Louisiana-Lafayette's Oscar Pachon 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Wang's run ended in the quarterfinals with a 6-0, 6-4 loss to Grubbs.
In the top half of the Singles B draw, Jonathon Chang was eliminated by Texas A&M's Daniel Brown 6-3, 6-0 in the Round of 16.
After scoring a late Friday, 8-6 win over TCU's Slah Mbarek and Daniel Sanchez, the Owls' doubles team of Chang and Seifert were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Men's Open Doubles A by Baylor's Robert Maytin and John Peers 9-7.
