College Station - Due to a heavy amount of rain in the region from a recent tropical storm, the Texas A&M Invitational cross country meet, set for Friday evening, is canceled because of flooding on the Penberthy Intramural Fields. The school made the decision on Thursday afternoon to save a number of schools unnecessary travel to College Station.
"We run on this specific course on our campus since it has such a great start and finish area which is very spectator friendly," said Texas A&M head coach Pat Henry. "Since the intramural fields are a manicured course and due to the conditions this week we can't overcome it.
"This is an unfortunate situation and it's the second year we have had to cancel our one and only home meet due to heavy rains and flooded field conditions. Hopefully this will speed up the process of us building a dedicated cross country course near the Texas A&M campus to avoid cancellation of the meet in the future."
The Owls next competition is next Friday, Sept. 17, when Rice hosts the 35th Annual Justin F. Cooper Memorial Rice Invitational.
