Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America Team
TUCSON, Ariz. - Rice second baseman Michael Ratterree has been named to Collegiate Baseball's 2010 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team, the publication announced Wednesday (June 9) from its headquarters in Tucson, Ariz.
Ratterree had an excellent debut season at the Division I level and was one of eight second basemen from across the country named to the Collegiate Baseball's annual freshman honors squad. The Houston native started every game at second base and proved to be a polished player on both offense and defense. Not only did Ratterree bat a steady .281 with 10 home runs, he routinely capitalized on RBI opportunities and finished the year with 64 RBI in Rice's 63 games. He also scored 60 runs and finished second on the Owls (and fourth overall in Conference USA) with 46 walks for a .425 on-base percentage.
The former Memorial High School standout was also fourth in the league in total plate appearances (297), tied for sixth in RBI and eighth in the in runs. On the defensive side Ratterree was fifth in the conference in assists (186) and he turned or started 51 of the Owls' 67 double plays. At the end of the C-USA regular season he was named to the league's All-Freshman Team on a vote of the C-USA head coaches and media members.
Rice baseball has had at least one Freshman All-America selection since the 2005 season. The Owls have won 16-straight conference championships dating back to 1996.
