The Rice Owls will host five bowl teams among the seven home opponents on their 2010 football schedule that was released by Conference USA on Tuesday.
The Owls will open the year with four games against non-conference opponents and then finish off the schedule with eight games over nine weeks against their C-USA rivals. Rice opens the year by playing four of its first five in the city of Houston, and then wraps up the season with a pair of home contests.
Rice opens the 2010 season by hosting the Texas Longhorns at Reliant Stadium on September 4. The Owls then head on the road for a game against North Texas, before returning home to host Northwestern (September 18), Baylor (September 25) and SMU (October 2) in consecutive weeks.
The Owls then hit the road for four of the next five games, with road contests at UTEP (October 9), UCF (October 23), Tulsa (November 6) and Tulane (November 13). Rice's lone home game over that stretch will be the annual clash for ownership of the Bayou Bucket against the Houston Cougars (October 16), which will also serve as Rice's Homecoming & Reunion weekend.
The regular season concludes for the Owls with a pair of home contests on November 20th vs. two-time defending C-USA Champion ECU and November 27th against UAB.
Texas, Northwestern, SMU, Houston, ECU along with road opponent UCF earned bowl bids after the 2009 season.
Game times for all Rice home games in 2010 are pending final selections by Conference USA's television partners. Information on season ticket packages will be released shortly.
