The Owls will open Wayne Graham's 20th season as head coach with a three-game series against preseason #10 Stanford on February 18-20.
After opening with the Cardinal, the remainder of the Owls' home slate also features non-conference games against Southern Cal and Texas A&M as well as three 2010 NCAA Tournament participants on the home schedule in (Lamar, UL-Louisiana and Florida International). The remainder of the non-conference home schedule features longtime regional rivals Sam Houston State, Texas State, Dallas Baptist, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Stephen F. Austin and former WAC rival Louisiana Tech.
Conference USA play for the Owls will open on March 25 when UCF opens a three-game series at Reckling Park. Other conference foes set to pay a visit to Houston this spring are Tulane, Memphis and Marshall. Crosstown rival Houston meanwhile visits Rice twice as part of the season-long five-game series for the annual Silver Glove Trophy.
Last spring the Rice baseball team went 40-23 and advanced to an NCAA Regional for a 16th-straight year. The Owls have won at least 40 games in each of the last 16 seasons and have won or shared 15-consecutive conference championships (including regular season and/or conference tournament titles).
Rice returns 23 experienced lettermen to the roster in 2011, including five returning starters in the field and a host of veteran pitchers. In addition to junior third baseman Anthony Rendon, the 2010 Howser Trophy winner as the collegiate player of the year, the Owls have a highly-touted group of incoming freshmen players making their Division I debut this spring.
