
Mericle Named South Central Region Athlete of the Year

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced Rice senior Nicole Mericle as the USTFCCCA South Central Region Athlete of the Year for the 2010 cross country season in Division I as voted by the division's coaches.It is the second time that Mericle has been selected as the South Central Region's Athlete of the Year. She previously won it in 2008.
In 2010, the Houston native won the NCAA South Central Regional by four seconds and she placed eighth at this year's Conference USA Championship. As a team, Rice earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Cross Country Championship by finishing second at the Regional meet in Waco, Texas.
Indiana State will host the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Monday, November 22 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course located at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind. The women's race will begin at approximately 11:08 p.m. Central, followed by the men's race at approximately 11:48 p.m.
A live webcast of the championships will be broadcast from 11 to 12:30 p.m. Central time, Monday, November 22, on NCAA.com. In addition, highlights from the championships will be included as part of the CBS NCAA Fall Seasonal Show scheduled to air on Saturday, December 18 from 12 to 1 p.m. Central time on CBS HD.
