Seifert, Saravia Claim Rice Fall Invite Titles

2010 Rice Fall Invite Day 3 Results
Philipp Seifert and Christian Saravia both claimed singles titles Sunday as the Owls wrapped up playing host to the 53rd Rice Fall Invite presented by Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites Medical Center.
Seifert, a freshman on the squad, defeated Rice teammate Oscar Podlewski 6-0, 6-4 to win the "C" Singles Draw championship. In the "D" Singles Draw, Saravia defeated Texas' Alex Hillard 7-5, 6-2 to capture a draw championship.
Seifert won an individual title for the second time in as many weeks. He won the Singles B title last week at the HEB Baylor Invitational. The Owls also had two members of the squad win in consolation play.
Freshman Peter Frank defeated teammate Isamu Tachibana 7-5, 6-4 in the "A" Singles Draw consolations while Jonathan Chang defeated Texas-Arlington's Brieuc Hamon 6-4, 6-4 in the "D" Singles Draw.
The "A" Singles draw was won by Daniel Whitehead, who beat LSU's Stefan Szacinski 6-1, 6-1. Texas' Ben Chen defeated Rice newcomer Harry Fowler 6-3, 6-4 to win the "B" Singles draw.
Rice also posted a couple victories in doubles play. Podlewski and Sam Garforth Bless teamed to beat LSU's Julien Gauthier and James Turbervill 8-5 while Seifert and Chang defeated Giacamo Sano and David Subirats 8-5 in the "B" Doubles draw consolation.
The Owls will be back in action starting Thursday at the D'Novo ITA All-American in Tulsa, Okla.
